Ahead of the UN General Assembly, P4P and Spain Convene Israeli-Palestinian Dialogue in Madrid

Ahead of the UN General Assembly, Principles for Peace (P4P) convened an Israeli-Palestinian dialogue in Madrid, at the invitation of Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation. Senior representatives of the Uniting for a Shared Future (USF) coalition gathered to bring forward collective Israeli and Palestinian recommendations.

We were honoured to be addressed by Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares and to meet State Secretary Diego Martínez Belío and other senior officials responsible for the Middle East, the United Nations, and foreign and security policy.

We presented a clear call to action: protect the territorial viability of a Palestinian state; halt settlement expansion, annexation and settler violence; release Palestinian revenues; connect Gaza’s stabilisation and reconstruction to a unified political horizon; and build sustained Israeli and Palestinian constituencies capable of making implementation possible. These priorities reflect the practical, on-the-ground work required to keep a two-state outcome viable, not only the diplomatic architecture around it.

We also proposed that the Global Alliance establish an advisory capability drawing directly on expert Israeli and Palestinian voices, enabling those who will live with implementation to help shape and stress-test it.

Spain has been one of the most consistent champions of the Global Alliance. As the 35th anniversary of the Madrid Peace Conference approaches, this Israeli-Palestinian dialogue in Madrid shows why its leadership and convening role matter once again.
